Working With Cancer expands with new head of operations
The social enterprise Working With Cancer is expanding with the appointment of a new head of operations.

María Quevedo will be supporting Founder Barbara Wilson with the running and development of the non-profit. María’s leadership and executive experience spans more than twenty years across both commercial and non-profit organisations. She is an ICF accredited coach and also runs her own business providing coaching, facilitation and operational consultancy services to organisations in the financial, education and non-profit sectors.
Barbara Wilson, founder of Working With Cancer, welcomed María and said: “Our team of 12 coaches, trainers and policy advisors train and individually coach around 1,000 people a year in the UK and Europe as well as providing guidance and information through webinars and advocacy. But the need for our work is increasing. We estimate there are now more than one million people of working age with cancer in the UK alone. We welcome María to our new role of head of operations to help us build and scale our services to meet this increasing need.
María said: “I’m delighted to be joining Working with Cancer which helps people to understand their rights and responsibilities in the workforce. Everyone at Working With Cancer has their own lived experience of cancer, and I had to take periods of extended leave to care for my mother who had ovarian cancer. I considered myself lucky to have a supportive employer who approved such leave because there were no processes in place at the time. The guidance and advice of Working With Cancer takes luck out of the equation and helps everyone involved. I’m privileged to be joining such as strong team to support such impactful work.”
