Cancer Coaching

Cancer can be a very lonely place. Treatment is tough, side effects can be difficult to tolerate, recovery takes time, and work can feel overwhelming alongside it all.
Working With Cancer® coaching is a personalised programme of one-to-one online sessions to help you navigate work in a way that feels manageable and right for you, with someone who truly understands.
Every coach on our team is qualified, has a corporate background and personal lived experience of cancer, giving them an authentic understanding of the practical realities and emotional challenges of navigating work and cancer.
Watch a short film showing one of our coachees, Mandy Goodman, talking to Barbara Wilson about the benefits she derived from her coaching.
How to Access Cancer Coaching
You can access Cancer Coaching in various ways:
- If you are in employment, and feel comfortable doing so, let your employer know about our coaching services and ask whether they would be willing to cover the costs of our corporate coaching programme. You can share this document with them.
- If your employer cannot fund your coaching, you can apply for an Access to Work grant which will fund up to 12 one-hour coaching sessions. Please click here to find out more.
- You can also pay for the coaching yourself and access our subsidised coaching fees.
If you are in financial need and unable to pay for the coaching yourself, you might be eligible for up to 3 free of charge one-hour coaching sessions.
Please email admin@workingwithcancer.co.uk to discuss which option is most suitable for you.
How it works
You’ll work with a qualified coach who has lived experience of cancer. Sessions are confidential and give you space to talk openly about what matters most to you – professionally, personally and emotionally.
Your Cancer Coaching will be tailored to your specific needs. It typically includes:
- A coaching needs assessment
- A series of 1-hour virtual coaching sessions working with you to facilitate the most realistic and practical work-related outcomes.
- Unlimited telephone and email support for you
- Access to WWC’s Best Practice Guides and other resources
- If the coaching is funded by your employer, we also provide unlimited support to your manager and HR
How we support you
Your coach can help you with the practical and emotional challenges of working with cancer, including:
- Workplace adjustments and flexibility
- Planning a return to work
- Managing fatigue, side effects, or anxiety
- Balancing work with treatment and appointments
- Preparing for conversations with your manager or HR
- Exploring different work options if things have changed
Many people tell us coaching helps them feel more confident, supported, and able to move forward at work.
